

The main activities of the Section of Pomology involve research on all relevant crop. Important fields are the improvement of production technics and elimination of cultural risks and the selection of local adapted varieties and rootstocks for different demands. The work is always focused on the selection and breeding of efficient and robust plants for all parts of fruit production. Teaching and education belongs also to our tasks.
The Location Geisenheim
The section of pomology manage about 14 ha, which are separated into 4 different fields. There are also 0,5 ha for our own breeding material and a 3500 m² nursery. The glashouse has a size of 190 m².

- Soil: river rhine area = flood-plain loam with 6,0 to 7,0 pH;
middle terrace = clay with 7,0 to 7,5 pH - average of climatic datas (1971-2000):
